Vision Board
Vision Board Artist’s Statement - Kathryn Zornado
As a teenager with access to the internet, I have been exposed to many ways of life. In my vision board, I explore two extremes that I’ve seen. I painted the left side with bright pastel colors, and I’ve included some inspirational quotes and words. These uplifting words are great for many, but I usually find them silly. They are often overly positive and unrealistic for me. In contrast, the right side of my vision board is painted with dark colors and dotted with depressing headlines and other sad imagery. It is important to hear these sad things, as they are a part of the world we live in, but sometimes they’re dramatized and meant to evoke unnecessary fear. I am constantly bombarded by these two ideals, and in many ways, they’re similar. This is made more evident by the words that can easily be taken both ways. The words “Someday we’ll all be free” span both sides. In the middle of it all, you find me. I smile in the face of both extremes, comforted by the idea that neither of them matter as much over time. As long as I keep love and happiness on my mind (represented by a heart) I’m okay.
