Drugged and Disordered - Reflection
Over the course of the drug project, we made it our goal to relay information about the effects of drugs on the body in a simple and fun way. I worked with another classmate on a project about roofies, or, date rape drugs. Together, we developed a mild “simulation” of our drug’s effects. I assembled three items for the subject to put on, a jacket weighted with marbles to simulate fatigue and/or impaired motor function, a pair of soundproof headphones, and a pair of blackout glasses. We would put all these items on the subject and spin them around, all the while telling them facts about our drugs. After spinning them, we would quiz the subject with a Velcro quiz board made by my partner.
People seemed to enjoy our simulation a lot. Half the crowd was able to recall the facts easily, but the other half of the crowd had a more difficult time remembering the answers. I’m proud of what my partner and I were able to accomplish with our research, but we could have done things better. For example, we got critique on our project saying that it might not be interactive enough, and I agree that it could’ve been better in that regard. I wish I had contributed more to the actual products as well. I spent much of my time getting and organizing my research on my drug and disorder, so I spent less time on the artifacts. Nonetheless, I think I came out of this project with a lot of information that will aid me in future chemistry classes.
